"Learning your child suffers from a substance abuse disorder is devastating in itself. Finding that there so few resources to help guide you in getting the help needed is even more overwhelming. |
"I have worked for and with nonprofit organizations since I was a kid. I have seen programs help lift people out of poverty, seen the cycle of violence and trauma end, and seen the people with big hearts sacrifice everything to help others. Working for organizations that serve communities, step into hard places, and seek to make the world a better place has shaped me into a better person.
One of my favorite stories is when I was a counselor for at risk youth. I had more than 30+ clients during that time and many of them made significant strides. One of those 30+ kids had parents that gave up on him, a school system that failed him, and was handed a very rough start to life. It may not have been efficient or significant to an auditor, but because of our nonprofit, he was able to finish school and maintain meaningful employment. It mattered to him that at least one person was rooting for him and that is what the nonprofit sector can provide.

After exiting a long term treatment facility, I found myself starting over. I had nothing. No job, no car, no home, no dignity. I was introduced to an amazing social services agency in Mingo County, WV - Christian Help. Here, I was welcomed. I received immediate and emergency needs such as food and clothing, but also received a sense of peace and self respect. The staff were warm, caring and very uplifting. |

I became a cancer patient in August of 2023. Pan Foundation has come to my rescue a second time. Without them I wouldn't be able to afford my care. They profess Dignity, Excellence, Integrity and you can believe all of this as they have been praised and received numerous awards.

Cottonwood's people, locations, and services meant so much to my Aunt Kathy and our family. Cottonwood states "they provide opportunities for adults with disabilities" but what exactly did that mean for Kathy and our family? After Kathy moved in with our family, it meant that my parents could continue to work and feel confident knowing that Kathy was somewhere during the day where she was respected, empowered, and loved.
